This guide provides an overview of setting up a status page with Status.io. Status pages are not one-size-fits-all, so there are many advanced customization settings beyond the scope of this guide.

Let’s walk through the basics to get your status page set up quickly.

Settings

Start with the Settings tab. This will include setting up your URL and timezone, amongst other general settings.

Design

Then move to the Design tab and progress through each of the sub-tabs. This will get your status page looking the way you want it, as it’s where you’ll upload your logo, customize your colors, etc. Certain tabs, like custom code, can be saved for later if you find that you need to use that feature.

Infrastructure

Next, move to the Infrastructure tab, to set up your components and containers.

Components represent core system functions (ex. website, API).

Containers are logical groups used to organize components by location or service type.

Within the Infrastructure tab, you can also set up any External Services that you wish to show on your status page.

Metrics

Move on to Metrics, if you choose to display any on your page.

Notifications

Then, move on to the Notifications tab and enable any notification methods you wish to use. Certain methods will require connecting an external service, such as SMS or Twitter. You can also customize your templates for email notifications, though this is not required and can always be explored later.

Team

Invite any appropriate team members via the Team tab. This can also be done first if you wish to have others help you get set up. Optionally enable single sign-on (SSO) for your team.

Events (Incident or Maintenance)

If you’ve not yet made your page live, feel free to test out creating an Incident or Maintenance event. These can be deleted after-the-fact and will help you get used to the process.

You can also backfill any historic incident or maintenance events.
