Passkeys Multi-Factor Authentication

/Account /Security /Passkeys Multi-Factor Authentication

Status.io supports passkeys as a second factor for your Status.io account. Passkeys use WebAuthn and work with your device (fingerprint, face) or a compatible security key, giving you phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA) when signing in.

What are passkeys?

Passkeys are a standards-based way to sign in using something you have (your device or security key) and something you are (biometrics). They are resistant to phishing because they are bound to the site you’re signing in to. Status.io uses passkeys as the second step (2FA) after your password when you log in to the dashboard.

Where passkeys are used

Passkeys apply to your Status.io account—the account you use to sign in to the Status.io dashboard and manage your status pages. They are not used for subscriber login to your status page or for private status page access (those use SSO or other methods).

Adding a passkey to your account

  1. Sign in to the Status.io dashboard.
  2. Go to User Profile (your account/settings).
  3. Find the Passkeys (2FA) section.
  4. Click Add Passkey.
  5. When your browser or device prompts you, create the passkey (e.g. fingerprint or face, or use a security key). You can optionally give it a name (e.g. “Work laptop” or “Phone”).

You can add more than one passkey (e.g. one per device) and remove or rename them from the same page.

Signing in with a passkey

  1. Enter your email and password on the Status.io login page.
  2. When prompted, use your passkey (fingerprint, face, or security key) to complete sign-in.

Passkeys are used only as the second factor; you still need your password first. If your browser doesn’t support passkeys, you’ll see a message and can use another 2FA method (e.g. YubiKey) if you have one configured.

Requirements

  • A browser and/or device that supports WebAuthn (most modern browsers and phones do).
  • Biometrics or a compatible security key configured on that device.
